I feel like my heart is overflowing

Phyllis Siegel, 76, and Connie Kopelov, 84, who have been together in Manhattan for 23 years, were the first couple in, receiving a waiver from the rule requiring 24 hours between a license and a ceremony. They were ushered right into the chapel. Ms. Kopelov used a gray walker anchored by two tennis balls as they were married by the city clerk, Michael McSweeney.

As Mr. McSweeney declared to the couple, “I now pronounce you married,” Ms. Siegel tenderly held Ms. Kopelov’s head and kissed her on the left cheek. “I am breathless,” said Ms. Siegel. (Source.)

Reading about the first gay marriages in NY State and actually crying, I’m so happy. I am so proud of my home state and everyone who worked to legalize gay marriage here and everywhere else where it is allowed—I am so proud of everyone who has made it possible for people in love to do something beautiful and important.

This quote really moved me because of the ages of the participants—when you’re 76 or 84, holy hell, you don’t know how much time you have left here. Finding someone whom you want to marry, at any age, is an incredible happening, and it would be tragic to be barred from marrying that person because of their gender. It would be tragic to go to the grave not being allowed to love fully and openly and to be able to share the totality of your lives, if that is what you want to do.

This is a day of beauty for me.

This said, we need to continue to fight to legalize gay marriage in the whole USA, promote gay rights, and raise acceptance of gays in American and world culture. We owe it to them and we owe it to ourselves.

Let us not impede love and beauty.

I am blown away. I’ve never seen any sketches/studies of Mucha before and I couldn’t breathe for a few seconds because of how ridiculously beautiful this is O__O

TIME FOR BJORKLOVE
also, check out her new…project—Biophilia. It sounds like some crazy interactive music/video/creative science-oriented endeavour and it’s humongous and really does sound different than anything done before and I wouldn’t expect anything less from Björk.

Whom did I see play this weekend?

Animal Collective, Ariel Pink, Belle & Sebastian, Big Boi, Das Racist, Emeralds, Explosions in the Sky, The Flaming Lips, Fleet Foxes, Girl Talk, Holy Ghost!, Kode9, Kurt Vile & The Violators, Mogwai, Of Montral, PJ Harvey, The Tallest Man on Earth, Toundra, and Za!

(that last exclamation point is because it’s part of the band name, not to express my own exitement, but I was so excited about all of this as to merit five exclamation marks so I’ve decided to omit them entirely.)

Primavera Sound 2011: Best music festival that I’ve ever been to. My Big Draw was the Flaming Lips, most Unexpectedly Awesome Show was Girl Talk, Unexpected Blast From the Past was Big Boi, and Incredible New Discovery goes to Holy Ghost! and PJ Harvey. Everything else, even if it didn’t merit one of these ad hoc awards, was still awesome. So yeah.

More later, probably, as I could fill a book with everything I’ve experienced this weekend.

EDIT: The title was initially “who” and I had to change it to “whom”. Guess four days of music festival have thus far failed to banish the grammarian from my brain…

so I come home from break

and my shelf of the refrigerator is full of food I didn’t buy and there is literally no room for me to put a goddamn carton of eggs. It’s been like this for over a day now.

The mystery deepens: all of the other shelves are practically empty, and each one individually is empty enough to hold all the food currently on my shelf. So even if all the food in my shelf belonged to one person, they could still remove it.

so I’m just like

and leave a note on the kitchen door asking whoever put all the food there to please remove it. And it sounds angry because I always sound angrier in Spanish buuuut right now I’m not really sweating the details.

and we just act the same about a lot of things in general and seem to have really similar thought processes. Basically the only difference is that her brother is older and mine is younger :P

Seeing the actual painting of “Guernica” was unexpectedly moving and indescribably better than seeing prints of it. Since then I’ve been a little obsessed with it.
Also I’ve been thinking of dyeing my hair blue or turquoise…so this photo is sort of a combination of images that have been all floating around in my mind but never quite coming into conjunction.
Awesome!
